Opt2Care is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding equitable, compassionate healthcare access for LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals facing barriers to care.

Why It Matters
Access to affirming healthcare is not a luxury—it is essential. Too many individuals delay or avoid care due to stigma, cost, or lack of inclusive providers. Opt2Care exists to change that—by creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to prioritize their health.
What We Do
Opt2Care is working to launch free and low-cost healthcare services designed to close critical gaps in access across Greater Houston. Our approach focuses on prevention, continuity of care, and community-based support—ensuring individuals are not only treated, but truly cared for.

Dr. Gordon Crofoot, MD
Medical Director, Opt2Care
Dr. Crofoot has been on the front lines of HIV medicine for over 40 years.
He began treating patients during the earliest days of the epidemic, signing hundreds of death certificates in the 1980s when HIV was universally fatal. Over his career, he has cared for approximately 13,000 individuals living with HIV.
Today, he remains a national leader in HIV clinical research.
His research center, The Crofoot Research Center, Inc., has:
- Participated in the PURPOSE 2 prevention trial
- Contributed data that supported regulatory acceleration of Lenacapavir
- Administered the first subcutaneous Lenacapavir injection ever given to a human
- Initiated one of the first once-yearly injectable PrEP research programs
Has conducted over 200 research studies for HIV and other antiviral drugs and viral vaccines.
Dr. Crofoot served as an author on the December 2024 New England Journal of Medicine publication reporting Lenacapavir prevention results, as well as an author of over 200 HIV published manuscripts.
