Why Now: A Historic Moment in HIV Prevention
HIV prevention has entered a transformational era.
For the first time in four decades, we now have long-acting injectable prevention capable of providing durable protection with just two injections per year.
Lenacapavir
Clinical studies have demonstrated that long-acting injectable PrEP with Lenacapavir is essentially 100% effective in preventing HIV transmission when administered appropriately.
This breakthrough eliminates one of the biggest historical barriers to prevention:
- No daily pill
- No daily reminder
- No pill bottle stigma
- No adherence fatigue
Just protection.
But innovation alone does not ensure access. Without navigation, funding support, and trusted providers, these breakthroughs remain out of reach for many individuals who need them most — particularly:
- Uninsured and underinsured individuals
- People experiencing housing instability
- Individuals with substance use disorders
- Undocumented residents afraid to access care
- Young LGBTQIA+ individuals navigating stigma

For over 40 years, Dr. Crofoot has been on the front lines of HIV medicine — caring for approximately 13,000 individuals living with HIV and helping pioneer the research behind long-acting injectable PrEP.
